US intelligence officials and commandos have found Balkans war crimes suspect Mr Radovan Karadzic and he will be arrested soon, the Nezavisne Novinenewspaper said today.

Mr Karadzic, the Bosnian Serb leader during the 1992-1995 war, was located by intercepting phone calls made by his supporters, said the paper, quoting an anonymous source close to international organisations in Sarajevo.

The source did not say where the United States believed the Mr Karadzic was hiding but said he had a defence system organised in five circles, with his bodyguards, family and neighbours all protecting him.

Mr Karadzic and his military commander, Mr Ratko Mladic, have both been indicted by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague for genocide during the Bosnian war.
