Abidjan - The light aircraft carrying the UN envoy to Angola, Mr Alioune Blondin Beye, was "on fire" before it hit the ground some 20 km east of Abidjan, informed sources said yesterday, quoting villagers near the site of the wreckage.

Air traffic control lost contact with the UN-chartered South African Beechcraft 200 minutes before it was due to land at Abidjan international airport on Friday evening. No one survived the accident.
