FASHION: Our guide to looking pretty in the city

FASHION: Our guide to looking pretty in the city

It may not have the "jingle jingle jaunted jingle" of Joyce's Viceregal procession, but the old-fashioned clang-clang clamour of traditional tram bells ringing on the new Luas line will shortly become a familiar refrain for passengers and Dublin city dwellers along the route. The sleek, glassy exterior of the new trams, with their gleaming metallic overcoat, gives Irish urban transport as fresh a look as the new vistas of the city that it opens.

When it comes to décor, lavender and egg-yolk yellow set the theme of the trams' livery, even down to its speckled floor. The yellow was chosen for high visibility, but our summery fashion shoot, staged in various locations along the way, is right on track with bright stripes, bold colour blocks and perky little handbags for a stylish girl's trip into town.

The Sandyford Luas line will be officially opened on Wednesday, June 30th. Saturday, July 3rd and Sunday, July 4th are designated as family days, with free travel, music and entertainment at many of the 13 stops along the nine-kilometre route. The Tallaght line comes into operation in August.
