Tralispean: €250,000: A beachside cabin near Skibbereen in West Cork is on the market through local agent Liam Hodnett at €250,000. The one-bedroom cabin at Tralispean beach is accessed directly through the dunes and comes with 1.7 acres of land but no electricity. The nearest shop is in Skibbereen three miles away.

While the facilities are basic - the shower is in the kitchen and the roof is corrugated tin - the cabin has been a very happy holiday home for its Dutch owners who acquired it over 20 years ago and who "camp out" there for a month each year, according to the agent.

The brochure describes it as a "rustic holiday house" and in fact it was once part of an adjoining farm. However, for those who favour a monk-like existence, it's the ultimate getaway.

A single living-cum-diningroom has a concrete floor and wood-burning stove. A step leads up to the bedroom which fits a double bed. The Perspex-roofed kitchen could be extended into an adjoining shed.

Fuschia grows all around the beach, which is on the doorstep. Just don't forget the candles.

Lisheen: €1.5m: With a clear view across to Jeremy Irons' terracotta castle on Roaring Water Bay, Ardnagroghery is a property with a good deal of potential and a price tag to match of €1.5 million.

The 26 acre holding, which includes a traditional farmhouse and a number of outbuildings, is on the market through Charles McCarthy who handles some of the most attractive property in West Cork.

The property is in a fine unspoilt location between Skibbereen and Ballydehob, surrounded by fields that run down to the shore.

It's close to a number of piers at Turk Head, Laheraatanavalley and Cunnamore, the main ferry point for Heir Island. Baltimore and Schull are within easy reach for those with a boat tied up in the harbour.

The three-bedroom farmhouse is set back from the road, with a garden to the front and a range of cutstone outbuildings as well as a barn with a separate entrance to the side.

The main house has two reception rooms and a kitchen on the ground floor, with one of the livingrooms warmed by a Stanley range.

The bathroom is also on the ground floor, though new owners may decide to convert one of the upstairs bedrooms into a second bathroom.
