HUNDREDS OF images of old Ireland and the globe-trotting adventures of affluent West Cork Methodists are among the subjects in an extraordinary collection of 19th century photography recently discovered in a house clearance.

The slides – and a magic lantern to view them with – carry an estimate of €1,500-€2,500 ahead of tomorrow’s antiques auction in Hegarty’s of Bandon, Co Cork, at 4pm.

The sale also features antique furniture, silver, art and collectibles. Viewing today is at Hegarty’s new premises on a bypass on the outskirts of the town. Drivers arriving from Cork city on the N71 should turn left at the roundabout before entering the town.
