MATTHEWS Auctioneers will hold an auction on the premises of Sallymount House, Fore, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath, at 2.30pm tomorrow, Sunday September 4th. Sallymount, owned by Oinri Jackson, is a well-known equestrian centre (currently for sale) and the contents include various items of equestrian interest including a horse-drawn carriage (€2,500-€3,500).

Auctioneer Damian Matthews said the sale would also feature “numerous choice pieces of fine antique furniture and the accumulated flotsam and jetsam of a lifetimes collecting”.

Among the over 400 lots are two 19th-century marble-topped French commodes (€10,000 -€15,000 each); a William IV dining table with accompanying set of 10 chairs; an antique revolver and other weapons including swords; several mounted heads of African game; light fittings, rugs, antique Hardy fishing rods, vintage clothing, and antique toys. A painting of Two Terriersby William Osborne (1823-1901), the noted animal painter and father of artist Walter Osborne, is estimated at €4,000-€7,000.

Viewing is today and tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, September 3rd and 4th. The house is just over an hour’s drive from Dublin. From the M50, take the M3 motorway and exit at Oldcastle. Sallymount is approximately six miles from Oldcastle on the right hand side of Castlepollard Road. There will be catering on site.
