Classics go (red)

Bring a red Penguin to the beach this summer and help raise money for Aids programmes in Africa.

Bring a red Penguin to the beach this summer and help raise money for Aids programmes in Africa.

The distinctive orange used by publisher Penguin on its book covers will be swapped for red on the covers of eight classic novels, with 50 per cent of the profits going to the Global Fund. Bono and former president Bill Clinton are among the fund's supporters. The (Red) campaign has raised $140 million since its launch four years ago for the Global Fund's Aids programmes in Africa, with a range of products from mobile phones and running shoes to laptops. Penguin's red reading list will include classic literary jewels, such as Bram Stoker's Dracula, Tolstoy's Anna Kareninaand Henry James's The Turn of the Screw, printed in newly designed special editions.
