The kids need new clothes, but you dread that trek around endless shops with buggy, toddler or grumpy teen in tow. You might prefer a visit from Captain Tortue, brainchild of a husband and wife team in Provence.

The idea is to present a good quality yet affordable range to groups of families and friends in private homes. "French children don't wear school uniforms, so their clothes have to be hard wearing," says Eleanor Cunney, who represents the company in Ireland. "And in France, parents dress their children as children, so the styles reflect that – there are no belly tops." Captain Tortue caters for girls and boys from six months to 16 years. Host a party and you get a discount, which you can use or donate to charity. For the month of February, they are offering a free pair of pyjamas with every three items bought. To book a party contact eleanor.cunney@gmail.com. Sneak previews at www.captain-tortue.com.
