Mullen's of Laurel Park had its best sale of the year last Monday, when a total of £180,000 was spent by buyers. The leading lot in the auction was a Victorian walnut credenza, sold to a private buyer for £6,000, while £4,800 was paid for a five-piece 19th century gilt drawingroom suite. A Georgian mahogany serpentine sideboard (circa 1800) made £4,200, a mahogany Chippendale revival partner's desk fetched £4,000 - the same price as a Victorian walnut side cabinet - and an Edwardian mahogany inlaid display cabinet sold for £3,100.
A Napoleon III ormolu-mounted, ebonised tortoiseshell and cut-brass inlaid boulle bonheur du jour went for £3,000, as did an Edwardian three-piece bedroom suite. A mahogany breakfront secretaire bookcase sold for £2,900.
