PHILIP GLASS Cassandra's Dream Orange Mountain Music ****Cassandra's Dream marks the first full score to be commissioned by Woody Allen for one of his films. While Glass's score for this London- set thriller is unusually taut with drama and suspense, the composer's signature minimalist style of propulsive rhythms, short melodic lines and dynamic arpeggios also yields up moments of extraordinary lyricism. While brooding orchestral strings predominate, lines for solo harp, clarinet and piano (performed by longtime producer and orchestrator Michael Reisman) inject its driving tension with, alternatively, a beguiling lightness and a startling darkness on The Pursuit & Murder

in the Park, The Plot Unravels and the climactic Death on the Boat. Of his recent film scores - Undertow, The Illusionist, Notes on a Scandal - Cassandra's Dream is Glass at his most expressive and artful. www.orangemountainmusic.com - JOCELYN CLARKE
