Two from a set of six, these Regency rosewood dining chairs are distinguished by the elaborate brass inlay work on their back supports. The complete set is being sold next Monday by Cork auctioneer Morgan O'Driscoll with a pre-auction price of £3,500-£4,000.

This auction contains quite a generous number of Regency items, such as a mahogany sideboard made in Cork, with claw feet and lion mask brass handles (£2,750-£3,500) and a rosewood and brass-inlay card table on sabre legs with brass castors (£3,500-£4,000). Also from the same period is a mahogany tilt-top occasional table with rosewood crossbanding (£1,800-£2,200), a pair of mahogany window stools with buttoned leather seats (£3,250-£3,750) and a mahogany fire screen with ebony inlay (£400-£500).

The 214 lots of furniture run from the Georgian to Edwardian eras and are followed by 100 lots of paintings featuring such familiar names as Sean Keating, Robert Ponsonby Staples, William Leech and Percy French. Starting at 7 p.m., the auction takes place at the Vienna Woods Hotel, Glanmire, Cork.
