The ever-prolific Xiu Xiu released their brilliant Plays the Music of Twin Peaks album while creating Forget, so it makes sense that aspects of David Lynch's unsettling, singular vision has seeped in.

Along with coproduction from Deerhoof's Greg Saunier, Forget emerges as an idiosyncratic, arresting piece of work. Every song surveys a kind of emotional, eccentric feverishness: the wobbly drone on Queen of the Losers, the gothic pop of Wondering, the glitchy, industrial Hay Choco Bananas, the dreamy nightmarish Jenny GoGo, and the gorgeous spoken word of drag artist Vaginal Davis on Faith, Torn Apart.

Jamie Stewart's vocal swerves from yearning to menacing, sometimes in the same songs, and the devastating Petite is a highlight. His charged, distinctive voice remains a constant in Xiu Xiu's work, along with their ability to constantly, pleasingly, surprise. xiuxiu.org
