Sydney’s Jezabels have been on the radar for a while now, and by this time next week we’ll know if they’re something close to the real thing or not.

Certainly, it feels that some kind of crossover success is overdue, though not for the quartet’s want of trying. Too often these days (every day?), bands struggle to match praise with sales, and so we gradually get to the place where acts capitulate under the pressure to match one with the other.

That such a stadium- sounding band is playing one of Dublin’s medium-size venues is a good thing (even if the band’s Edge-like riffs could easily be enjoyed at Croke Park); that singer Hayley Mary’s whoops can shatter glass isn’t. No matter – if you’re the kind of person who likes to search out Next Big Things playing sold-out gigs, give these Australians a go.
