What would be on your fantasy rider?Peace of mind, bottled water from the fountain of youth, everlasting love.

What's the best gig you've been to?I saw Peter Gabriel in 1994 at the 25th anniversary of Woodstock. I was 17 and on strong hallucinogens; he sang Salsbury Hill, and it changed my life when he sang "son, grab your things, I've come to take you home".

And the worst?The washed-up heavy metal band Raven when I was 14. It was like Anvil before I was old enough to appreciate the irony.

Who is the most famous person to have shown up at one of your gigs?Maybe Keanu Reeves? Not the most famous but certainly the coolest was the real Frank Serpico.

Most embarrassing on-stage moment?Playing to four people in a rodeo bar in Texas with pneumonia and no shoes.

Chatting between songs – good or bad?Bad. Because folks are there for the songs and the music, not for the artist's internal dialogue, which is usually distracting, nervous and meaningless.

Groupies. Would you?Hmmm. Only if I were the groupie in 1978 and Stevie Nicks pulled me into her dressing room.

Any useful stage tips?Make sure your fly is up. Don't get too drunk. And don't stage dive – you're not Eddie Vedder, the '90s are over, and today's fans may be checking their smart-phone and drop you.

What's the worst thing ever thrown at you?A gigantic pair of woman's underwear landed upon my head while drumming.
