You may have expected Jedward's Lipstickto have scooped it, or perhaps something by radio playlist darlings Westlife, The Coronas or The Script – but Royseven's We Should Be Loverswas officially the most-played Irish song on Irish radio in 2011.
The Dublin sextet, who first formed in 2003, released their second album,
You Say, We Say, in March.
We Should Be Lovers, the first single from the album, received massive support from radio stations to come out with the spoils in the most recent Irish airplay report.
"We're delighted with the support that the song received from Irish radio," lead singer Paul Walsh said. "Our gratitude goes out to everyone who gave it a spin. We also had two other songs in the top 30 of the airplay charts, so 2011 has really been a great year for us."
As reported last week, Royseven will headline the First Fortnight gig on January 14th. See firstfortnight.com
