Celtic Connections lives up to name

Irish mini-festival Sligo Live is to curate its own night at the annual Celtic Connections event, which is currently taking place in Glasgow.

Young trad band Téada, who have already headlined several world-music festivals, will be joined by Sligo trad-fusion act Túcan and rock trio The Unwanted.

“We thought it would be appropriate to showcase on our first outing some superb talent that is based right here in Sligo, which is a town that is alive with music,” said festival director Shane Mitchell.

A large number of Irish artists – including Andy Irvine, Horslips, Gemma Hayes and Imelda May – are among the musicians lined up to play the Scottish festival, which runs from January 13th to 30th and celebrates all things Celtic and cultural. Other non-Irish acts on the bill include John Grant, Mavis Staples and Richard Thompson.

This year’s Sligo Live festival will take place from October 27th to the 31st, and it will return the favour by featuring music from Celtic Connections for the first time. sligolive.ie
