They started off in their teens, winning a Battle of the Bands competition in 2005. Immediately thereafter, north London’s Bombay Bicycle Club (named after a chain of Indian curry houses) caused a veritable feeding frenzy by record labels, all of which were apparently falling over each other to sign the fledgling band.
Initially, the teenagers talked to teenagers. But as the years went by band members Jack Steadman, Suren de Saram, Ed Nash and Jamie MacColl (son of Kirsty, grandson of Ewan) morphed into their present status of one of the sharpest bunch of 20-somethings doing the rounds. More importantly, for sure, is that they’ve shed descriptive words such as “twee”, replacing them with words such as “rugged”. One club, then, you wouldn’t mind becoming a member of.
