It's a long way from Presentation College, Bray, but it seems that the five members of Big September (named in tribute following the death of a close friend in that month) have graduated onto bigger and better things. There's certainly something of an epic, anthemic quality to the band's debut album; you'll be reminded of The Edge's guitar lines and U2's widescreen, often overly dramatic presence. Sometimes this approach seems not only too ambitious but also just a little unimaginative, yet there's no doubting the intentions: Big September aim (as it says in the press release) to "hit people in some way and have an uplifting message". They're not to everyone's hip tastes, but if you're looking for a band to shake a fist to this summer, when they play a series of open-air events, then here is one such. bigseptember.com
