No Distance Left to Run

One of last year’s (temporary) success stories was the blink- and-you-missed-it reformation/ swift disbanding of Blur. This well-crafted two-disc set looks at not only the comeback gigs (disc two features Blur over two nights at London’s Hyde Park last July) but also the months leading up to it. It is the latter section that is by far the more interesting.

While the concert is filmed in HD, using a compelling multi- camera edit that is pleasureably head-spinning, it is the footage trailing the four members, from rehearsals to on-stage antics, that tell the real tale of how these smart musicians succumbed to all the rock’n’roll cliches. Archive material is mixed with new interviews to shed light on the characters of the band’s most well-known members: Damon Albarn (not as taciturn as you might think) and Graham Coxon (what a nice bloke!).
