PAIR of 19th century carved marble life-size animal figures form the centrepiece of Herman & Wilkinson's auction on Lower Rathmines Road next Thursday morning. The lion and lioness have the day's highest estimate of £3,000-£4,000, considerably more than is expected for a highly carved Victorian oak centre table (£900-£1,200) or an 18th century carved oak buffet (£700-£800).

Both a Victorian mahogany breakfront sideboard and a Georgian fold-top supper table carry the same estimate of £800-£1,200, and a Victorian bookcase should make £500-£800. The sale also contains a large amount of porcelain, glassware, prints, stamp collections and other collectable material.
