The Cork Arts Society/Lavit Gallery Student of the Year Award Exhibition opened this week and will run until August 15th - this year's winner is Mary Gregoriy, a sculptor . . . The Gasyard Wall Feile takes place in Derry from Monday and runs until August 16th - highlights include a reading by Irvine Welsh from his new novel, Filth, at the Gweedore Bar on Monday at 9 p.m., comedy from Kevin McAleer at the Delacroix, also on Monday at 9 p.m. a debate about the experience of communities emerging from conflict, with speakers from the ANC, the Latin American Solidarity Committee and the loyalist and nationalist communities, and a concert by Dickie Rock, supported by the Kleriks and the Bogside disco dancers at the Stardust on Saturday 15th at 9 p.m. . . . The closing date for all submissions to the Arts Council for the forthcoming Arts Plan is Friday, August 14th.
