The accidental omission of some words from Michael Viney's "Another Life" column on robin behaviour last Saturday made part of it hard to follow. The relevant paragraph should have read "Frustrated robin-watching of this sort must have been what pushed J.P. Burkitt, county surveyor of Fermanagh 1900-1940, into trapping all the robins in his garden and putting different coloured rings on their legs. You couldn't call him a twitcher - he didn't look at a bird until he was 37 - but ornithology is undyingly grateful to his technological breakthrough." {CORRECTION} 9703100013
