Passenger numbers up at Aer Lingus and Dublin Airport Authority

Aer Lingus and the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) reported increases in the numbers of passengers using their services in May. The DAA said 1.8 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport last month, a 9 per cent rise on May 2012.

The growth in traffic was across flights to and from all areas; Britain, Europe, North America and services to the Middle East and further afield.

Aer Lingus said it carried more than 1 million passengers in May, 5.3 per cent more than in the same month last year.

The number of short-haul passengers, including those carried by its regional operations, increased to 914,000 (up 3.7 per cent year-on-year) and the airline’s long-haul numbers increased by more than one fifth to 107,000.

Regional traffic increased 2.3 per cent year-on-year to 90,000. Flown passenger load factor rose 3.6 points year-on-year to 79.8 per cent with short-haul rising 3.4 per cent to 77.2 per cent. Capacity in short-haul fell 1.8 per cent.
