Web Summit to run schools event for 1,500 students

The Web Summit is to run an event for secondary school students on the opening night of the technology festival.

A number of high-profile speakers will address the event including Google's vice president of engineering Anna Patterson, Silicon Valley Robotics managing director Andra Keay and Lauren Wirtzer, head of digital at Parkwood Entertainment, the company behind Beyoncé.

The Web Summit for Schools event will take place on the evening of November 4th, with spaces limited to 50 students from each of the first 30 schools that apply.

Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave said the aim of the event was "to inspire the next generation of game changers who will shape the world we live in".

The Web Summit was founded in 2009 by Paddy Cosgrave, David Kelly and Daire Hickey.

The 2014 event will feature more than 500 speakers and 2,000 start-ups, with 20,000 people expected to attend.

Speakers will include former Apple CEO John Sculley, Beats Electronics European vice president of marketing Omar Johnson, Hailo founder Jay Bregman, Actress Eva Longoria and Richard Arnold, group managing director at Manchester United.
