Check-in app Foursquare works like this: you and your friends can see each other check into restaurants, concerts, etc, and rate those venues.

It mustn’t be a winning formula because the creators decided to change Foursquare into a Yelp-like location- based review app and siphon off the “where your friends are at” bit to a new app called Swarm.

This is probably a good move; we all appreciate good reviews when choosing where to eat or drink but don’t necessarily want to give up our own location information within the same context.

It's coming in the next few weeks, so prepare to Swarm with friends and Foursquare with the masses.
