Trinity Biotech, the Wicklow-based manufacturer of diagnostic products, reported a rise of 27 per cent in second-quarter revenues to $9.4 million (#10.7 million) over the same period in 2000.

It made a pre-tax profit of $1.4 million before exceptionals and losses associated with its genomics associate HiberGen. This compared with a pre-tax profit of $1.6 million in the same quarter the previous year.

The biotechnology firm, which develops and manufactures over 200 diagnostic products, saw its share price rise 8 per cent on Nasdaq yesterday to $1.75 and was up 12 cents to #2 on the Irish Stock Exchange. Gross margins rose to 52 per cent in the second quarter, up from 50 per cent in the same period the previous year. Gross profit was also up $4.8 million from $3.6 million a year earlier. Revenues for the six months to the end of June rose 24 per cent to $17 million. compared with $14.2 million in the first six months of 2000.
