IRELAND must develop a risk ethos if we are to be successful in international markets according to Mr Peter Quinn, former president of the GAA and a financial consultant.

Speaking at the Chartered Accountants in Business conference yesterday, Mr Quinn said we needed a public sector which understood risk taking and which encouraged competition.

"Without a paper balanced attitude to growth in both the public and private sectors, Ireland will become even less significant in international trading terms," he warned.

Mr Nelson Loane, chief executive of Adare Printing, spoke on how to create a strong market presence. He said sales and markets were the first priority. "It is the well oiled machine and team with countless monitors behind the scenes which will go on to support the creation of a greater market presence.
