Adapting to the increase of retail space in Dublin: We have had to become more competitive, more focused on what we do.

Getting away from it all: When I switch off, I switch off completely. When I go home, that is it. I do not think of the company until the next morning.

Personality: I am not a social animal. I am not well known. Only the people who need to know that I am chief executive of Clerys know that I am chief executive of Clerys.

The home county: When it comes to cheering for an all-Ireland team, it is still Cavan.

Pressures of being chief executive: I think I had a three-month honeymoon and then suddenly the ceiling came in.
