The Clane Fertility Clinic in Co Kildare has been acquired by the Spanish group Institut Marques for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 1986 as a joint venture between Clane General Hospital and Bourn Hall Clinic in Cambridge, the clinic offers a number of assisted reproduction treatments including IVF and ICSI.

The Institut Marques, which is headquartered in Barcelona, already has consultation offices in Dublin. The firm, which is to shortly send a specialist medical team from Spain to Ireland, said it is currently processing the appropriate authorisation with the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA).

"Our main motivation is to help families with fertility issues to fulfil their dream of parenthood and we look forward to bringing our services to Ireland," said director Dr Marisa Lopez Teijon.
