The Paris Bourse lost ground yesterday partly due to weakness on bond markets amid widening fears of a delay in launching the EU's planned single currency, especially after statements by German finance minister, Mr Theo Waigel.

Frankfurt DAX: 3291.19 (-59.80)

The Frankfurt stock market nosedived yesterday as the market was weighed down by worries about EMU and about the outlook or Wall Street and US interest rates.

The main corporate news was the Krupp offer for Thyssen, which sent Thyssen shares to a new record of 410 marks in after-hours trading.

Italian shares slumped to a new low due to the lower lira and the poor performance of the bond market. There was little support, with most international markets heading lower.
