Hotels: Terry Devey of the Devey Group has denied that the Park Hyatt hotel group has pulled out of plans to operate a five-star hotel in Dublin's docklands. Edel Morgan reports.

The hotel, designed by an award-winning Portuguese architect, Manuel Aires Mateus, is part of a €475 million scheme by the Devey Group to redevelop a pivotal site at Grand Canal Dock. The scheme also includes a 2,000-seat performing arts centre.

The Devey Group was chosen by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) as the preferred bidder to develop the site. The involvement of Park Hyatt was seen as a major coup for the docklands. The Park Hyatt hotel group did not comment yesterday.

Dublin architects Duffy Mitchell O'Donoghue is responsible for the third element of the scheme, an office building which will flank the performing arts centre, standing opposite the hotel on the southside of Grand Canal Square. The hotel, described as dramatic and cavernous, will have two parallel blocks of 94 serviced apartments to the rear.
