American Power Conversion (APC) has opened its second manufacturing plant in Ireland at the IDA Business Park in Castlebar, Co Mayo. By mid-1998 the company will employ 100 people, with this figure expected to double within three years. There are 60 people currently employed at the Castlebar plant building high capacity protection solutions for datacentres. APC's first manufacturing facility opened in Galway in 1994 and employs 700 people.

APC's new Datacenter Solutions division will cater for the European market, including manufacturing, sales, customer support, and software development.
