Almost 800 staff at Irish Life have opted to forgo a total of £1.5 million in salary in exchange for extra shares in the company. The 793 staff who took up the share options under the company's profit sharing scheme, represent about 63 per cent of its total workforce and is considerably up on the previous year. In 1997, 498 Irish Life staff took shares in lieu of part of their salary.
