AGRI-ENERGY, the renewable energy company, has moved a step closer to its goal of becoming a major biofuel supplier through its acquisition of Enva's Foodservice Solution for an undisclosed sum.

Part of the environmental division of DCC, Enva's Foodservice Solutions offers a comprehensive range of products and services for catering operations, such as the Allura range of virgin oils and fats.

"Our strategy is predicated on abating carbon in the most environmentally sustainable manner, thus avoiding the food-versus-fuel conflict and averting deforestation. This new investment is a tangible demonstration of our strategy as we look to convert waste biomass into biodiesel," said Robert Behan, chief executive of Agri-Energy.

Agri-Energy, the renewable energy division of Larry Goodman's Irish Food Processors, is the largest processor of recovered vegetable oils and fats in Ireland and the UK, with a market share of over 35 per cent, which it achieved through 15 acquisitions over the past two years. It is developing biodiesel plants in Waterford and on the Merseyside in the UK.
