THE New South Wales team to meet Ulster at Ravenhill tomorrow night shows six changes in personnel and four positional alterations from the side that beat Leinster last Friday night and looks an even more formidable side than that which played in Dublin.
The team will be led by international number eight Tim Gavin and David Campese, who retired injured against Leinster after six minutes, has been named at full back. He takes over from Tim Kelaher while Matt Mostyn moves from the left to the right wing for Campese and Cameron Pither who played on the flank against Leinster, is named on the left wing. In the centre Jason Madz replaces Matt Dixon.
The alterations in the pack are at prop where Richard Harry comes in at loose head with Andrew Heath moving to the tight side for Andrew Blades, Sam Domoni is in the second row for John Welborn, while there is a new back row in Willie, Ofahengaue, Gavin and Brad Harrison.
A highly entertaining Irish Students final trial at Lansdowne Road yesterday ended with the Blues running out deserved winners 38-19 over the Whites. The stars of the Blues win were the Leeds Metro pair, full-back Simon Mason and scrum-half Robin Saverimutto.
Mason, in particular, looks to be a player to watch his fine handling, strong running and superb kicking singled him out as the best back on view.
The strong Blues pack, with prop Paul Flavin, giant second row, Malcolm O'Kelly and full Irish international Anthony Foley outstanding, completely controlled proceedings in the first half.
The Blues were 14-0 ahead within ten minutes with two fine tries by their back row forwards, Roger Wilson and Kieron Dawson, both converted by Mason.
