Former England international Paul Gascoigne has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm.

The ex-Newcastle, Tottenham and Lazio midfielder was held in South Kensington, west London, in the early hours of this morning.

He was arrested after a 43-year-old man alleged he had been assaulted at a nightclub in the area.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Police were called at approximately 3.40am by a 43-year-old man who alleged that he had been assaulted by another man at a club in South Kensington.

"Following inquiries, a 39-year-old man was arrested at a separate club nearby at 4.15am on suspicion of actual bodily harm and is currently in custody at a south west London police station."

It is not thought the victim of the alleged assault required hospital treatment.
