Former England captain David Beckham insists he is happy at Real Madrid and revealed negotiations about a new contract are ongoing.

Beckham's existing four-year deal with Real, which he signed when joining from Manchester United in 2003, will run out next summer, meaning he will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January.

Media reports have linked Beckham with a move back to the Barclays Premiership and to America, but the former England captain claims leaving Real in the near future is not part of his thinking.

"I am not considering any move at the minute, because I am a Real Madrid player. I have always said I am happy here, and I'm not looking to move my family from here," he said.

Real president Ramon Calderon has repeatedly voiced his belief that Beckham will sign an extended deal at the Bernabeu, even though the midfielder recently revealed his frustration at being used mainly as a substitute this season.

"Since the president has come in, he has made his feelings clear to me, and he says he wants me to stay," said Beckham.

"There hasn't been a proposal yet, there have been talks with my representatives.

"The contract talks have been going on since last season, but there have been a lot of changes (at the club this summer), and they only started up again three weeks ago.

"This season we have had one meeting and we will take it from there. That is where we are at the moment."

Beckham's time at Real has coincided with a barren spell for the club, who have not won any major silverware in the last three years.

But after a major overhaul throughout the club this summer, Beckham believes this season will finally see Real winning trophies.

Aside from Calderon and coach Fabio Capello joining the club, Real drafted in a host of new players including Fabio Cannavaro, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Emerson.

"I'm not going anywhere in January, I want to stay here this season and be part of the team because I believe we can win things this season," Beckham said.
