Emma Robinson, of Bangor, put in another top performance on the second day of the British Swimming Championships and European trials in in Sheffield yesterday.
Robinson (20) was the sixth fastest qualifier in the heats of the 200 metres breaststroke - not her top event - in two minutes 39.42 seconds. The Ulster woman, omitted by Ireland's selectors for the European championships in Turkey later this month, went on to finish sixth in the final in two minutes 37.71 seconds. Robinson had already broken the Irish 50 metres breaststroke record in Thursday's final.
Her Irish team-mate Niamh Cawley improved on her personal best time in the heats of the 200 metres backstroke, reaching the finals with successive times of two minutes 22.17 seconds and 2:21.49.
Athletics: Peter Coughlan was just edged out of the medals in the 110 metres hurdles at the World Student Games in Palma de Mallorca last night.
Coughlan's time of 13.63 seconds left him just a stride behind the winner Terrance Tramwell of the USA who won in 13.45.
Earlier in the evening Coughlan won his semi-final with a time of 13.68, although both Jon Nsenga of Belgium (13.51) and Dawne Wallace of the USA (13.59) both bettered that time in taking silver and bronze in the final.
There was bigger disappointment for Gary Ryan in the 200 metres when he missed a place in the final by one place when finishing fifth in 21.06 seconds.
Rugby: Lawrence Dallaglio, who stepped down as England captain after newspaper allegations of drug taking in May, is to rejoin his international team-mates for a training session on July 19th.
The English Rugby Football Union's management board and an independent inquiry panel have decided that there is no justification for excluding him from the squad's training sessions.
