Malaysian Open: Welshman David Park holds a one-shot lead near the midpoint of the Maybank Malaysian Open while the Irish duo of David Higgins and Gary Murphy find themselves well-placed in Kuala Lumpur.

Park carded a flawless eight-under 64 for a 13-under-par aggregate, one shot ahead of Thailand pair Thongchai Jaidee (63) and Thammanoon Srirot (65).

Jaidee, a two-time Asian Tour order of merit winner, is seeking a third straight victory in the Malaysian event.

Pre-tournament favourite Padraig Harrington opened with a three under 69 yesterday, then moved to four under after four holes of his second round. That was before play was halted yet again, this time because a severe lightning storm and heavy downpours hit the area.

Kerryman Higgins carded seven birdies in his 68 but three bogeys in four holes on the back nine undid some of the good work.

Murphy remains on six under by virtue of his first round 66 but the Kilkennyman, like the lower half of the field, never got starting his second round as play was suspended.

First-round leader Miguel Angel Jimenez shot a disastrous second-round 77 to finish day two on three under.
