Tennis/Wimbledon 2004: It was pleasant to see the Irish names up on the green scoreboards but it lasted only an afternoon as Irish Federation Cup player Kelly Liggan and her Spanish partner Arantxa Parra narrowly lost out on a place in the second round of the women's doubles yesterday.

Despite falling 4-6 in the first set, the pair fought back to win the second set 6-4 and were serving for the match at 5-3, when their opponents turned the match.

Parra's serve was broken, then Liggan's, which allowed Schwartz and Woehr to serve out for the match with a 7-5 third set.

Belfast's Claire Curran and her partner, Britain's Jane O'Donoghue, who were late arrivals to the tournament, also went down in two sets 6-2, 6-4 earlier in the day.
