The Ospreys have appealed against the banning of Wales centre Gavin Henson for his use of an elbow against Leicester prop Alex Moreno last month.

Henson (23) struck Moreno during the Ospreys' 17-15 Heineken European Cup defeat at Liberty Stadium, breaking the Leicester prop's nose.

A hearing suspended Henson for 10 weeks and two days but he escaped punishment for aiming a kick at Moreno - which missed - in the same incident.

The ban effectively ended Henson's hopes of playing in the Six Nations Championship as he would not be available until late in the tournament and then would struggle for match fitness.

The Ospreys are hoping for a reduction in the ban, though an appeal could also see it extended.

Meanwhile, Llanelli Scarlets have pledged to slap a life ban on the fan who clashed with Jonah Lomu at Stradey Park on Monday.

The All Blacks legend was verbally abused by a home fan, who threw the ball away from the wing, during Cardiff Blues' 32-13 Celtic League defeat.

Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher said, "I have seen video footage of the incident and I'm shocked and disgusted . . . We're confident we will be able to identify the fan, who will not be welcome at Stradey Park again."
