Fulham manager Jean Tigana has again shown his determination to make an immediate impact on the Premiership by preparing to take his summer spending spree close to £20 million sterling by capturing full back Jon Harley from Chelsea.

Subject to a medical, Harley (21), will make the switch across West London to the Premiership newcomers for £3.5 million, with Chelsea also receiving 25 per cent of any future transfer fee.

With winger Boudewijn Zenden also having joined last week, taking their own pre-season spending to £32.2 million, Chelsea therefore agreed not to stand in Harley's way when he asked for a transfer.

The young defender is Fulham's fourth signing in a week, following hot on the heels of goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, their most significant capture of the pre-season period, for £7 million from Juventus.

Steed Malbranque and Abdeslam Ouaddou have also joined for a total of £6.5 million, while Luis Boa Morte's loan spell was made permanent at a cost of £1.7 million earlier this summer.

Rangers must wait a further 24 hours before they can seal the £6.5 million signing of Everton defender Michael Ball.

The Ibrox club's medical team are still waiting to speak to the specialist who has been checking out Ball's recent knee injury before completing the deal.

However, Ball's representative, Trevor Steven, has admitted that the deal has been delayed with the specialist somewhere in the US.
