Golf Digest/PGA Tour: A flawless five-under-par 65 gave Ted Purdy a one shot victory in the Byron Nelson Championship at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas, yesterday.

At 15-under-par 265 Purdy finished one clear of Sean O'Hair with Vijay Singh in a three-way tie for third place at 11-under-par with Bob Tway and Doug Barron.

Omar Uresti, Nick Price and Shigeki Maruyama were next on 10-under-par 270.

Three birdies at the third, sixth and eighth took Purdy to the turn in 32 and he was equally consistent on the back nine with birdies at the 11th and 16th for an inward half of 33.

O'Hair mixed a pair of birdies with two bogeys for an even par front nine and three more birdies on the back nine gave him sole possession of second place.

Ernie Els fired a final round four-under 66 to be six back of the winner, while Phil Mickelson closed with a three-under 67 for an eight-under-par total of 272.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: Jim Thorpe and Morris Hatalsky were tied at 15-under-par through nine holes of the final round of the Blue Angels Classic, at the Moors Golf Club, Florida, where play has been delayed due to inclement weather.

The US pair were two shots clear of Don Pooley with Dave Barr setting the clubhouse target at 12-under-par 198 after a final round of 63.

Des Smyth, after a second round 63, finished with a 66 for an eight-under-par total of 202. Mark McNulty was a shot back on 203 after a closing 67.

CHALLENGE TOUR: Argentina's Rafael Gomez secured his second European Challenge Tour title of the season, and moved to the top of the rankings ahead of Ireland's David Higgins, with a stunning final round of eight-under-par 63 that left him one shot clear of Sweden's Johan Edfors at the XX Tessali-Metaponto Open di Puglia e Basilicata.

Gomez put together one of the best final round performances of the season so far, coming home in just 30 shots with a blistering back nine that began with an eagle two at the 10th hole and then continued with a further four birdies in the next five holes.

Michael Hoey finished in joint 15th place on eight-under-par 276 after a final round of 67 while Justin Kehoe struggled for 75 and a final total of two-over-par 286.

LET TOUR: Denmark's Iben Tinning fired a final round 70 to claim a three-shot victory in the Spanish Open at Panorámica Golf and Country Club, yesterday.

With a 72-hole total of 280, the Dane finished at 15-under-par to collect her third professional victory on the Women's European Tour (LET) and

€ 41,250 in prize money.

Tinning finished three shots clear of Sweden's Linda Wessberg, who had a superb final round 68 to finish at 12-under-par.

Rebecca Coakley finished in joint sixth place on nine-under-par 279 after a final round of 69 while Hazel Kavanagh shot 74 for 291.
