Despite the weather, Arklow's Chris Doyle has made an impressive start to the season

Despite the weather, Arklow's Chris Doyle has made an impressive start to the season. The five-handicapper figured three times in the winners enclosure on the excellent Wicklow links over the weekend. On Saturday, Chris, acting as the middle man, teamed up with Brian Purcell (15) to win the fourball with 36 points from Myles Kavanagh and Myles Doyle, and he also won the gross with Pat Conroy (18) with 31 points.

On Sunday, he had a shot in hand when partnering Jimmy Breslin (6) in the Scotch Foursomes. Their 481/3 was one shot better than Rodney Doyle (12) and Joe Mangan (17).

Another double star was Laytown and Bettystown's Pat McQuillan. Pat finished third behind Ted Power and Ben Bailey in Saturday's Singles v Par, but went all the way on Sunday to win the Singles with 31 points from Aeden Bowden and Pat O'Neill.
