DIGEST/GOLF: Irish Curtis Cup player Tara Delaney's victory in the Lady Northern Invitational at East Lansing, Michigan, last week has earned the 20-year-old Kent State University, Ohio student from Carlow fourth place in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin women's college ratings. It was Delaney's third win in the United States.

The only players ranked ahead of her are Alison Walshe (Arizona), who is eligible to play for Ireland, Sara Wikstrom (Arkansas Little Rock) from Sweden and US Curtis Cup player Taylor Leon (Georgia).

Other Europeans in the top 20 are Anna Nordqvist (Arizona State) from Sweden in seventh place, Germany's Sandra Gal (Florida) in 11th place and Belgium's Benedicte Toumpsin in 19th.

Six internationals return for European champions Munster against Ulster in the Magners Celtic League at Musgrave Park tomorrow night. Coach Declan Kidney announced his team for the game rather than the usual squad but held back on naming his European Cup squad until next week.

BOXING: Unbeaten Irish middleweight John Duddy goes head to head with Mexican veteran Luis Ramon "Yory Boy" Campas in New York tonight.

The pair clash at the 5,000-capacity Theatre Club in Madison Square Garden, with an IBA world middleweight title up for grabs.

Campas, nine years Duddy's senior at 36, has dropped 72 opponents en route to 88 victories from 96 pro fights and despite being in the twilight of his career is still a formidable opponent.

Irish light-middleweight Matthew Macklin will challenge Jamie Moore for the British title in Manchester tonight. Of his 27 fights Moore has clocked up 24 wins ­ 17 by knock-out ­ and lost three. Macklin has 17 wins - all by knockout - from his 18 fights, with one defeat.

CRICKET: The Irish Cricket Union yesterday announced the appointment of Warren Deutrom as the new chief executive of Irish cricket.

Deutrom is currently working as cricket events manager with the International Cricket Council, and is well known to Irish cricket, having been director of last year's successful ICC Trophy.

He was previously marketing, communications and events manager of the England & Wales Cricket Board.

He first worked with Irish cricket in staging the sell out World Cup game between the West Indies and Bangladesh at Clontarf in 1999.

"I look forward to the challenge of helping the Irish game to move forward at all levels," said Deutrom.
