Leinster Schools' Junior Cup Quarter-final/Newbridge College 20; Roscrea College 0: Diarmuid Carr almost single-handedly destroyed Roscrea College with a sublime hat-trick of tries that sent Newbridge College confidently through to the Leinster Schools' Junior Cup semi-final at Donnybrook yesterday.

In truth, this was a scrappy affair that paled beside the classic thrown up by Gonzaga and Pres Bray the day before and it was only Carr's brilliance that lifted it out of mediocrity.

Indeed, the Kildare school will have their work cut out to cope with the winner out of the Gonzaga-Pres Bray replay.

Carr first struck on half-time, being sent away down the blindside by a pass from centre Jonathan Grey.

It was a reward for his side's domination of territory over a much lighter Roscrea eight.

The pattern continued in the second period. Fullback Gary Burns created enough space for Carr to show his pace on the outside of Roscrea's defence and Carr did it all himself from halfway for the third, sprinting outside two defenders before cutting inside fullback Richard Mulvey.
