Voting rights in referendums

Sir, – I am a British citizen and have lived in the Republic of Ireland for 23 years. I am not allowed to vote in any referendums but Irish citizens living in the UK will be allowed a vote in the “in/out” referendum in 2017 and any other referendums that may be held (presumably because the Republic was once in the Commonwealth). In light of the recent referendum in the Republic, should not a little more equality be spread around? – Yours, etc,

BARBARA BENEDICT,

Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow.
