Sir, - The front page of The Irish Times (June 23rd) shows three children looking disinterestedly at the camera. The caption says: "malnourished children". It is a form of image making which subordinates individuals to a political agenda, and remains typical of Irish Times representation of the "third world". Turning individuals and nations into vehicles for financing charity projects has been coming under fire in aid organisations for years. When will The Irish Times abandon this patronising stance towards faraway places and peoples, which reduces complex problems to simple appeals at the expense of the humanity of those involved? Yours, etc.,
