Sir, – I heartily agree with Aidan Roddy (Letters, January 4th) about protecting the Christmas season until "Little Christmas". The festival starts too early and ends too abruptly.
For good measure, I have revived the old custom, beloved of my father who died in 1959, of making small Handsel Monday gifts of money to my grandchildren on the first Monday of the new year. – Yours, etc,
