Dubliners seeing stars

Sir, – Further to your "Replacing old street lights could leave Dubliners seeing stars" (News, January 4th), the new LED technology will, according to the senior executive engineer, Seamus MacSweeney, remove the "orange hue" and we might once again see the stars. At last, like Joxer from Juno and the Paycock we can finally say, "What is the stars". – Yours, etc,

MIKE MORAN,

Sir, – The old snipe about efficiency measures as to “How many people does it take to change a light bulb?” sprang to mind when I read the news that Dublin City Council is to switch to LED bulbs in the next two years. The projected cost to Dublin is €55.4 million, or €1,385 per lamp. Before the traditional budget overruns, that is. Undoubtedly, that will bring a bright glow to the successful contractor’s profits. – Yours, etc,
